What to include
Every message is easier to act on with the page address in it. Beyond that, it depends on why you are writing.
Corrections
Quote the sentence you think is wrong and say what it should say instead. If a manufacturer instruction, a product specification, or a local requirement contradicts something published here, point to it. Corrections that hold up are made on the page. Subject line: Correction.
Questions about a guide
Describe the situation with the specifics that change the answer: the material, the measurement, the appliance, the number of people, the budget. A question with numbers in it gets a better answer than a general one. Bear in mind that a guide cannot diagnose a problem in your home sight unseen, and that anything requiring a licensed trade needs a professional rather than an email.
Permissions and licensing
Say which article you want to use, how much of it, where it would appear, and whether the use is commercial. Short quotations with attribution and a link do not need permission; the terms of use explain what falls outside that. Reprints, translations, and syndication all need a written yes first.
General feedback
Requests for subjects to cover are worth sending, particularly the specific ones. Also useful: telling us a set of instructions was hard to follow, or that a step did not work in practice. Unsolicited guest posts, paid links, and sponsored placements are not accepted, and pitches for them are not answered.
What happens after you send it
Messages are read by the TipsAndKnowHow editors. This is a small publication rather than a support desk, so no response time is promised here, and it would be dishonest to print one that could not be met on a busy week. Corrections are prioritized ahead of everything else, since they affect what other readers see.
Not every message gets a reply. Pitches, mass outreach, and link requests generally do not. If your message is time-sensitive, say so in the subject line. If it has gone a long while with no answer at all, send it once more rather than assuming it was ignored, as mail does occasionally get filtered.
Email you send is used to answer you and to fix what needs fixing, and nothing else. The privacy policy covers how that correspondence is handled.
