Data the site does not collect

The site is built from static pages. It has no user accounts, no sign-in, no comments, no newsletter, and no contact form. The publisher sets no first-party cookies and keeps no visitor profiles; the one measurement tool in use is a cookieless page counter, described under Cloudflare below. Nothing on these pages asks for your name, postal address, phone number, or payment details.

Two outside services do process data when you visit: Cloudflare, which delivers the pages, and Google, which serves the advertising. Each is described below.

Email

If you write to contact@tipsandknowhow.com, the publisher receives your email address, any name in your signature, and the contents of the message. That information is used to read and answer your message and to act on it, for example by correcting a guide. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for marketing, and not sold or shared with anyone for their own use.

Messages are kept so a conversation can continue later. You can ask for your messages to be deleted at any time. Email travels through ordinary mail providers, so avoid sending anything sensitive by that route.

Cloudflare

Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site. To answer a page request, its network processes technical details such as your IP address, the browser and device information your browser sends, the page requested, the referring page, and the time. Cloudflare uses this to serve pages quickly and to block attacks and abuse, under its own privacy terms. The publisher does not use this data to identify readers or build profiles.

Each page also runs Cloudflare Web Analytics, a short script loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com. It tells the publisher how many times each guide was viewed, which page sent the visit, the browser type, the visitor's country, and how fast the page loaded. The publisher sees only those totals. The script uses no cookies and no browser storage, and Cloudflare does not use it to follow anyone across sites (how it works).

Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense to display advertising.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Google explains how it handles data from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

The publisher chooses where ad units appear on a page. It does not choose which ads are shown to a particular visitor, and it does not receive personal data about you from Google.

Opting out of personalized ads

Opting out stops ads being chosen from your browsing history. You will still see ads, and they may still be chosen from the page you are reading.

Visitors in Europe

Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are shown a Google-certified consent message before advertising identifiers are used. The choices shown in that message decide whether those identifiers are used for you.

Sources and other websites

Guides cite the sources they rely on, such as government agencies, university extension services, and manufacturers, and link to them so you can check the original. Those websites are run by other organizations with their own privacy policies. Once you follow a link away from tipsandknowhow.com, that site's policy applies.

Children

The site is written for adults and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child has emailed the site can ask for that message to be deleted.

Your requests

Depending on where you live, the law may give you the right to know what personal information is held about you and to have it corrected or deleted. The only personal information the publisher holds is email correspondence, so the process is short: email contact@tipsandknowhow.com from the address you used before and state what you want done. Requests about delivery logs should go to Cloudflare, and requests about advertising data to Google, since each controls its own data.

When the way this site handles data changes, this page is revised and the date at the top is changed to match.
